Catastrophic flooding leaves Kentucky in a State of Emergency
In April of 2025, Kentucky experienced catastrophic flooding across central and western regions after a slow-moving storm system dropped more than 15 inches of rain in some areas. Communities like Frankfort saw the Kentucky River crest 17 feet above flood stage, forcing evacuations and causing widespread damage to homes and businesses. Roads, utilities, and water service were severely disrupted, and clean-up efforts took weeks to complete.
FEMA, along with local nonprofits, has been providing support to help residents recover and repair their homes. The deadline for FEMA assistance applications is set for July 25, 2025, for those in affected areas, including Jefferson, Nelson, Franklin, and other designated counties.
